To view scenes from this area, you'll need to go to Google images and type in Bagan, Myanmar. I was down for the count for two days and totally missed Bagan. But I do have a monkey story from there.
Our group of seven, went to Mt. Popa (which they all said was a big disappointment). It took an hour to drive there, then a strenuous hike to the top. One person vomited at the top, one person got dizzy and never made it to the top and one person got bitten by a monkey! All in all, it wasn't the best excursion. Here's the monkey bite story.
A group ahead of our group had dropped a big bag of peanuts (never feed any monkeys) and there was a frenzy amongst the monkeys trying to get as many as they could. Monkeys everywhere. Two of our group were following and were trying to get around the commotion. A baby monkey jumped onto Nigel's pant leg, below the knee. He shook his leg to get the monkey off, the baby monkey was shaken off, let out a squeal and the mother monkey immediately ran over to Nigel and bit him on the leg. He said it didn't break the skin, and kind of looked like a big blood blister.
So on the return drive, they went to a clinic where he got a tetanus shot, a staph shot and a course of antibiotics, with instructions to monitor the situation and begin rabies shots when he got home. That will be in March, as they are touring Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam for another month. Kind of scary.
So much for Bagan.
